Date: 21/12/2023

In November, more than 20 employees of Chiesi Germany carried out environmental protection in the Schnaakenmoor (Hamburg). During our activities, we focused on the removal of non-native pines and other shrubs.

Why protect moors? Pine trees can alter the delicate balance of ecosystems like the Schnaakenmoor. By removing them, we are restoring the natural habitat and allowing native plants and animals to thrive. Intact moors play a crucial role in reducing climate-damaging carbon dioxide. By protecting and preserving these areas, we are helping to combat greenhouse gas emissions. Healthy peatlands act as carbon sinks, absorbing and storing CO2. In addition to reducing CO2, peatlands are hotspots of biodiversity. They provide habitats for specialized species and diverse habitats for a variety of life forms. The efforts in the Schnaakenmoor are in line with our commitment to protecting these important ecosystems.

Taking action together: But Chiesi employees were not only active in Hamburg. Our colleagues carried out a wide range of activities in the regions, such as designing a vegetarian cookbook, building nesting aids and distributing food at a food bank. Many thanks to everyone for their commitment!
